چکیده

The importance of plasma momentum fluxes in fusion reactor divertor operation is noted. Direct measurements have been made of the momentum flux from magnetized He, Ne, AI and Kr plasmas onto solid carbon targets oriented normal to the magnetic field, as the target bias was varied between 50 and + 40 volts. The inferred ion energies are compared with fluid sheath theory. Corrections due to kinetic effects and charge exchange are considered.

Drive of parallel flows by turbulence and large-scale E × B transverse transport in divertor geometry

Poloidal asymmetries of parallel flows in edge plasmas are investigated by the 3D fluid turbulence code TOKAM3X. A diverted COMPASSlike magnetic equilibrium is used for simulations. Measurements and simulations of parallel Mach numbers are compared and exhibit good qualitative agreement. Small-scale turbulent transport is observed to dominate near the Low Field Side midplane, even though co-exi...

In-Situ Gas Conductance and Flow Measurements Through Alcator C-Mod Divertor Structures With and Without Plasma Present

A specialized arrangement of gas-puff capillaries and in-situ pressure gauges has been installed in Alcator C-Mod to allow gas conductances and flows around divertor structures to be measured with or without plasma present in the chamber. Results are presented from a series of dedicated experiments performed during the 1020725 run day (MP#313, " Instrumented Divertor Leakage Experiments "). Gas...

Simulation of Power and Particle Flows in the NSTX Edge Plasma

We simulate edge plasmas in NSTX double-null divertor configurations with the UEDGE two-dimensional fluid code. The carbon impurity density in the core plasma and total radiated power increase with the core heating power and the magnitude of the physical and chemical sputtering in the divertor. Up/down plasma asymmetries are generated by classical cross-field particle drifts. With the standard ...

EX/P4-21 The Effect of Magnetic Balance and Particle Drifts on Radiating Divertor Behavior in DIII-D

Success of the puff-and-pump radiating divertor approach depends sensitively on both the divertor magnetic geometry and the ion B B drift direction. In the puff-and-pump scenario used in this study, argon impurities were injected into the private flux region, while plasma flows into both the inner and outer divertors were enhanced by a combination of particle pumping near both divertor targets ...

Damage to nearby divertor components of ITER-like devices during giant ELMs and disruptions

During normal operation of the high confinement mode in future ITER devices, edge-localized modes (ELMs) are a potential threat to the divertor components lifetime and plasma contamination. To predict the outcome of the direct ELM plasma impact on the divertor plate, conversion of plasma energy into radiation in the shielding layer, and then the resulting energy deposition of radiation flux to ...
